Medium Density Design Guidelines Consultation open
The Department of State Growth are seeking your feedback on its draft Medium Density Design Guidelines.
Visit the State Growth website for the open consultation: 15 July to 6 September 2024
Medium density housing includes a broad range of multiple-dwelling housing types, ranging from small lot housing through to terraces, townhouses, and low- to mid-rise apartment buildings.
The Guidelines are intended to provide best-practice guidance to planners, councils and developers in the preparation and assessment of medium density development proposals from the earliest stages.
The Guidelines also provide the community with insight into what quality medium density housing looks like and how such developments can occur within existing built-up areas without adversely impacting on local heritage and character.
While not intended to be a regulatory document, the Guidelines will help to inform the Improving Residential Standards in Tasmania Project, which is currently investigating improvements to all urban residential use and development standards in the State Planning Provisions (SPPs) as part of the SPPs statutory review. It builds on the earlier Medium Density Residential Standards project to develop an Apartment Code.
A report on recommended changes to the SPPs urban residential standards will be also be open for consultation on this website in the coming weeks. This report will lead to developing amendments to the SPPs. Future amendments to the SPPs include opportunities to have your say through public exhibition and hearings during independent assessment by the Tasmanian Planning Commission. For more information, please see the Medium Density Residential Development Standards Project and the State Planning Provisions review.
