Summary
The State Planning Office and Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT) are working on a joint review of the mapping used in the Landslip Hazard Code in the SPPs.
MRT completed the first stage of the project to prepare the 2025 Landslide Planning Map updated from the first one developed in 2013. MRT undertook initial consultation with councils and state agencies in November 2023 on the technical updates to the map.
Public consultation on the proposed changes to the technical Landslide Planning Map took place between February and May 2024. To check that the mapping remained true to the intended purpose, an independent peer review was completed in 2025.
In the next stage, the new mapping will replace the existing landslip hazard areas mapping for application of the Landslip Hazard Code in the Tasmanian Planning Scheme. Mineral Resources Tasmania is working with the State Planning Office to facilitate this process and use of the new mapping until the statutory process for amending the Landslip Hazard Code is complete.
