Tasmanian Regional Planning Mapping system

The Tasmanian Regional Planning Mapping System (regional mapping system) has been developed to support the use, interpretation and application of Tasmania's Regional Land Use Strategies (RLUSs). Tasmania is divided into three regional planning regions, with each RLUS providing strategic direction for land use and development within its respective region. Only the spatial information relevant to the Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy 2026 (STRLUS) is contained within the regional mapping system, however it will be updated with the spatial information once the remaining two have been revised and declared.

The mapping layers are organised generally according to the key themes in the RLUSs, including:

  • Growth Management
  • Environmental Values
  • Environmental Hazards
  • Sustainable Economic Growth
  • Physical Infrastructure
  • Historic Cultural and Natural Heritage

These layers assist users in navigating, interpreting and applying the regional strategies in RLUSs by presenting relevant spatial information in a clear and accessible format to support a better understanding of how regional strategic planning policies apply across Tasmania.

Most of the spatial layers displayed within the mapping system reflect the datasets available through TheLIST. They are provided within a strategic regional planning context to support the interpretation of the RLUSs and do not replace the source datasets. Users requiring the most current or authoritative version of a dataset should refer to TheLIST and the relevant data custodian, or the relevant Tasmanian Government agency or authority for data sets not provided on TheList.

This mapping system is intended as a planning support tool that brings together strategic policy and spatial information to assist planners, stakeholders and the community in understanding and applying the RLUSs.
