On behalf of the Minister, the State Planning Office has released a position paper – Preventing delays on development assessment timeframes, for a 2 month consultation period.

The position paper is in response to the Tasmanian Government’s second 100 day plan which lists a commitment to ‘strengthen residential planning processes to prevent unnecessary and repeated 'clock stopping' that slows down the approval of housing for Tasmanians’.

The position paper outlines the existing legislative framework around the current processes and provides guided consultation questions aimed at identifying the issues and exploring potential options to achieve the Tasmanian Government’s second 100 day plan commitment.

Written submissions are invited until 5pm Friday, 8 May 2026.
