The Tasmanian Planning Policies (TPPs) have come into effect from the 1 July 2026.

The TPPs were made by the Minister on 12 November 2025.

This is the first time that Tasmania has had a set of integrated land use planning policies in its history. After State Policies, the TPPs are the highest level of land use planning policy.

The aims of the TPPs will be implemented through the regional land use strategies and the Tasmanian Planning Scheme. There are seven policies addressing:

  • Settlement
  • Environmental Values
  • Environmental Hazards
  • Sustainable Economic Development
  • Physical Infrastructure
  • Cultural Heritage, and
  • Planning Processes
